About Us
James T. Mathieu, LG, LHg, President & Principal Hydrogeologist
Jim Mathieu brings 20 years of consulting experience to his role as president of NLW. He received his B.A. in Geology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and later completed his M.S. in Hydrology at the University of Arizona. His work has covered all aspects of water resource and environmental investigations, from field testing and data acquisition to complex hydraulic analyses and modeling. Over the past 10 years, he has focused on water-resource projects, with an emphasis on managing water for people, fish, and wildlife. He also specializes in water-supply and water-rights investigations, resource protection, and analyzing river-aquifer interactions. Jim has worked on a number of environmental investigations involving both soil and groundwater contamination.
Laura Strauss, RG, LG, LHg, Vice-President & Principal Hydrogeochemist
Laura Strauss brings over 21 years of consulting experience to water resource and environmental projects. She offers a unique combination of specialized skills in the areas of hydraulics, geochemistry, and isotope analysis, which often reveal flow and recharge patterns that are not apparent from traditional hydraulic data. She has also used isotope and other geochemical data to shed light on the complex interactions between streams and underlying aquifers. Laura integrates her abilities in geochemistry, database management, groundwater modeling, GIS, and Viewlog to develop three-dimensional subsurface models and construct cross-sections. Her experience also extends to artificial recharge investigations, groundwater development and management, and environmental assessments.
